We took Jack to Mystic Aquarium today to celebrate his birthday. We invited another family with a child with AS along. Here are a couple pictures of them together. They both seemed to enjoy the exhibits, especially the one where they could put their hands in water and splash. Here are a couple of pictures.

Hi,
you asked if Dimitri used to mouth everything, yes quite alot, but what struck me is how Dimitri used to hold his dummy (pacifier) exactly the same way as in your photos. Also he had 3 or 4 with him at all times:-).
Well, he mostly grew out of it, but still chews towels and socks if given the opportunity:-). I don't know, but maybe as he started to use his hands more, he didn't need to get the sensory feedback through chewing so much? When I get a minute will add a couple of ideas for play to the forum (dimitri is at home and he tends to hog the computer!)

ps, sorry I'm a bit off topic!
Hi Emma
no problem! Thanks for your comment! I think you're onto something with the mouthing being a sensory thing. I've just borrowed a couple books on sensory processing disorder from the local library and think Jack really needs a great deal of sensory integration.

I'm a bit of a broken record when it comes to sensory intergration, always going on about it:-)
I don't know if Jack is the same, but Dimitri when around 2.5-3 years, couldn't squeeze water out of a sponge (literally), didn't like finger paints or play doh, and the smell of plastercine made him vomit.
He would pick up a sponge at bath time with a pincer grip, thumb and forefinger, trying to make as little contact with the sponge as possible so he could see the water run out of the sponge.
I can see I'm rambling:-) - if any of it sounds familiar let me know.
Emma
